“In Unusual Numbers”

by Suzán Jiván Mom
& Mom-Mom Suzán

In unusual numbers
coming under harsh discussion
while running out the clock
in a paralyzed economy
of hobbled small farmers
land-rich and cash-poor
holding one nostril above water
while carrying out chores
feeding watering mourning
no-longer-crossing
cattle forced to perform
with twirling torches
as squawking cantankerous sorts
running down sows
hand-milking cows
unblinkingly looking
at might-have-beens
heavily armed with weaknesses
upon disembarking off secret
flotillas of climatically
brittle plot twists
filled with explicit grimness
having been whipsawed
into submission
by freeze-framed monsoon missiles
while staring at bulgey-eyed pond fish
fiery scales glistening
spring flooding hardly farming
slipping away click-baited
disinformation heavy rain
early snow taking their toles
wheat canola grain bins exploding
borrowing rotting mottos
yielding swampy horrors
of unharvested barnyard memoirs ...
